Does the ImageVector work with my camera?
The ImageVector works with any camera that has an ISO flash shoe and is not compatible with any camera that does not have an ISO flash shoe.
Which drones can the UAV upgrade kit be used with?
The UAV version is compatible with any drone capable of carrying a conventional camera (with an ISO hot shoe). It is generally not compatible with small, closed system drones.
Is the UAV upgrade kit suitable for terrestrial use?
The UAV upgrade is not suitable for hand-held terrestrial use, as there is no easy way to mount it on a hand-held camera. However, it may be suitable for permanently mounting to vehicles or other large instruments.
Can the normal ImageVector be used on a drone?
No, the 3D ImageVector is intended for terrestrial use. The antenna is not mounted appropriately to have reception when the unit is mounted on the camera underneath a drone. The unit is also too heavy for most UAV applications.
Can an ImageVector be used inside?
No, all models of ImageVector rely on GNSS reception and are therefore not suitable for indoor use. It is possible to complete projects that have both an indoor and outdoor component using the ImageVector by recording image positions for some photos and not others. However, this is an advanced technique that requires specialist knowledge. We can provide professional training on how to do this, so if this is something that interests you, please contact us.
Can the ImageVector be used from a plane, helicopter or car?
Yes, the ImageVector has been successfully used on projects where images are captured from the windows of vehicles or aircraft. However, being within (or near) the vehicle can reduce GNSS reception and accuracy. Furthermore, travelling at high speed can reduce accuracy. If this is your intended application, please consult with us directly.
Which ImageVector should I buy?
The best choice of ImageVector depends on your accuracy requirements. The Mono offers high accuracy and is suitable for terrestrial photogrammetry without ground control points, where the resulting model is intended for accurate measurement. The Neo offers lower accuracy but is inexpensive and easy to use. It is best suited to tasks where the outputs are intended for visualisation or documentation.
Can the 3D ImageVector really work without GCPs?
Yes, in most applications you can make an accurate 3D model, DEM or orthophoto without GCPs. When very high accuracy is required, you may still wish to use some GCP’s, but using the ImageVector means you require fewer of them.
Why is it better to use an ImageVector than GCPs?
GCPs are very time consuming to deal with in the traditional photogrammetry workflow. They must be marked and measured in the field, then marked again in photogrammetry software. This can account for several hours of work on a large project. The ImageVector can therefore save a lot of time and money.
Can I try a demo model?
Yes, we rent out demo versions of Terrestrial ImageVectors and UAV upgrade kits. If you purchase an ImageVector, 50% the rental fee is discounted from the sale price. We also require you to pay for shipping of the demo model.
What is the weight of the UAV upgrade kit?
Approximately 80g without an external power supply (usually the ImageVector can be connected to the drone’s power supply). Approximately 130g with an external battery (some drones don’t have a suitable power supply).
What are the power supply requirements for the UAV upgrade kit?
The UAV upgrade kit requires a 5V output. If no such output exists on your drone, we can provide an external battery for a small additional cost.
How accurate is the 3D ImageVector Mono?
The Mono records image positions with an accuracy of up to 8cm, depending on GNSS reception.
How accurate is the 3D ImageVector Neo?
The Neo records image positions with an accuracy of up to 2m, depending on GNSS reception.
Does the 3D ImageVector Mono use PPK or RTK?
Both options are available. The default (recommended) model uses PPK, but you can purchase an upgrade for RTK compatibility.
Is the ImageVector certified as waterproof/weatherproof?
The ImageVector is not intended for use in wet weather. The terrestrial version is contained within a solid housing that will provide sufficient protection if you are caught briefly in the rain, but it does not have any waterproof certification. The UAV version is less protected and also has no certification. However, it is generally mounted in a sheltered part of the drone, which provides sufficient protection for likely scenarios. Most drones are not designed for flying in wet weather, and if you land your drone immediately when wet weather approaches, you should have no problem with the ImageVector.
Do I require special software?
The REDtoolbox is required to use the ImageVector or UAV upgrade kit. It is included in the price of an ImageVector purchase. It provides outputs suitable for all common photogrammetry software, including Agisoft Photoscan, Pix4D and Reality Capture, however, you must purchase licences for these software packages separately.
Do I have to buy the REDtoolbox software?
The REDtoolbox software is included included in the purchase price of every ImageVector. It can also be used with some other GNSS receivers, but in these cases it must be purchased separately. You should check with us to see if your GNSS device is compatible before buying the software.
